New Edge FSC Resident Coaches Professional Ethics & Policies 2022 – 2023
1. Responsibility for running the club rests with its Board of Directors and not the club professionals.
2. Coaches must be members in good standing with the Professional Skaters Association, obtain a PSA rating and
continue to improve that rating.
3. Club professionals are to follow USFS guidelines regarding coach requirements.
4. Coaches will always maintain a professional attitude – this includes to skaters, parents, rink management, rink
employees and other coaches.
5. Club professionals are expected to exercise discretion and care in their relations with each other, their skaters and
students of other club professionals.
6. Public criticism of a skater or coach by a club professional shall be deemed unprofessional conduct. This includes
Facebook and all forms of electronic communication, which can be viewed publicly.
7. Coaches must be in skates, on the ice, with their student during all lessons. Coaching from the bench in street shoes
or skates, yelling instruction across the ice is not permitted.
8. Coaches are responsible for teaching the proper respect and conduct to their skater while on the ice, including ice
etiquette (surface areas of practice, wearing the orange vest, etc.); music is played in rotation and may be repeated if
time permits. Skaters in lessons have priority, however skaters practicing on their own also have the right to have their
music played.
9. Coaches witnessing incidents on the ice in which skaters are endangering themselves or others should bring it to the
attention of that skater's coach immediately. If the coach is not available, they should politely correct the skater.
10. Coaches must provide the Club with a list of all their students, including e-mail addresses and should notify the
Membership chair when bringing in a new skater to the club.
11. Coaches must notify the club of their schedule – accepting or not accepting new students.
12. NEFSC Resident Coaches are expected to have half their students as NEFSC first club members and bring half their students to the
club's competition.
13. All NEFSC Resident Coaches must attend mandatory coaches’ meetings and fulfill their Participation Program obligations.
14. Complaints or recommendations by professionals should be put in writing and placed in the NEFSC mailbox at the
rink or emailed to a Board Member for resolution or discussion by the Board of Directors.
15. The Club does not mediate Parent/Pro concerns
16. Coaches are expected to support the club in its goals and mission.
17. Coaches are allowed to videotape/record their own skater/student for the sole purpose to be used as a learning tool.
Videotaping/recording other skaters is strictly prohibited.
18. The Board shall deal with violation of the above policies. Any professional who cannot abide by these rules will be
given a warning. The second offense will result in suspension; the third offense is dismissal

COVID-19 Waiver
*
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. While any person can be a carrier or contract the virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. Federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have prohibited the congregation of groups of people. While preventative measures have been put in place to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, there is no guarantee that you will not become infected and therefore, by visiting the John Lindell Ice Arena, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19, accept responsibility for any injury and release the New Edge Figure Skating Club from any liability and hold it harmless.

Assumption of Risk
In consideration of participating in activities, I represent that I understand the nature of skating activities (“activity”) and that I am qualified, in good health and in proper physical condition to participate in such “activity”. I acknowledge that if I believe conditions are unsafe, I will immediately discontinue participation in the “activity”. I fully understand that this “activity” involves risks of serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis and death, which may be caused by my own actions, or inactions, those of others participating in the “activity”, the conditions in which the “activity” takes place, or the negligence of the “releasees” named below; and that there may be other risks either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I fully accept and assume all such risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and damages I incur as a result of my participation in the “activity”. I hereby release, discharge, and covenant not to sue the New Edge Figure Skating Club, it’s directors, officers, administrators, sponsors, volunteers, agents, employees, staff, instructors, trainers, other participants and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises on which the “activity” takes place (each considered one of the “Releasees” herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the “releasees” or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations; and I further agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability, and assumption of risk, I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I will indemnify, save, and hold harmless each of the releasees from any loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as the result of such claim. The program has the right, but not the obligation, to provide rules, regulations and/or ice monitors for program ice. We hereby acknowledge that they shall not be responsible for the supervision of the members on program ice. I have read this RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT, understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it and have signed it freely and without any inducement or assurance of any nature and intend it to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law and agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid, the balance, notwithstanding, shall continue in full force and effect.
