New Edge Aspire – Birmingham
Ready to take the next step beyond Learn to Skate?
The New Edge Aspire Program is designed for skaters who are ready to build confidence, strengthen their skating skills, and begin exploring everything figure skating has to offer.
Aspire serves as a bridge between Learn to Skate and traditional figure skating club participation. Skaters receive structured instruction in skating skills, jumps, and spins while learning how practices, private lessons, testing, competitions, and club membership work.
Most importantly, Aspire gives new skaters and their families a supportive place to learn what comes next without having to figure it all out on their own.
Who is Aspire for?
New Edge Aspire is open to skaters who:
Have passed Basic 4 in a Learn to Skate program
Have not yet passed a U.S. Figure Skating test
Are currently participating in Learn to Skate and/or private lessons
Are interested in developing their skating beyond the traditional Learn to Skate curriculum
Skaters may participate in the Aspire program for up to two years as they transition into more independent training and full club participation.
What to Expect Each Saturday
Saturdays | 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
Birmingham Ice Arena
11:30–11:50 a.m. — Off-Ice Warm-Up
Skaters begin with the U.S. Figure Skating National Dynamic Warm-Up.
12:00–1:00 p.m. — On-Ice Training
Each session includes structured instruction in skating skills, jumps, and spins, along with practice time and opportunities to explore other areas of figure skating such as ice dance, pairs, synchronized skating, and Theatre on Ice.
1:10–1:30 p.m. — Cool Down & Parent Education
While skaters cool down and reflect on their session, parents will have an opportunity to learn more about the skating world. Topics may include supporting your skater, choosing equipment, private lessons and coaching, testing, competitions, New Edge FSC membership, and other aspects of progressing in the sport.
Program Details
Start Date: October 3, 2026
Cost: $150 every four weeks
Enrollment: Rolling enrollment is available, with prorated options when applicable.
The program is divided into two general sessions during the skating season: fall (September–December) and winter/spring (January–May).
Ready to Aspire?
Getting started requires two steps:
1. Register for your New Edge membership.
Complete registration for the “New Edge Aspire – Birmingham” membership through New Edge Figure Skating Club here.
2. Register for the Aspire program and arrange payment.
Email Val Katsman at val@royaloakskatingacademy.com to confirm your skater's enrollment and receive payment information.
Once both steps are complete, your skater will be ready to join us on the ice!
